“Netflix and Chill” seems to be the thing to do nowadays! It’s always nice to get lured in to a TV series and share the experience with your partner.
Here are a few engrossing TV shows I have recently watched and highly recommend (some are old, some are new)!
Beware, you will have no social life!!!
IMDb Rating 9.3/10
Literally, I just watched the last available episode as I type this. Based on the character Sherlock Holmes but set in the modern day, this is one of my favourite detective shows. It's very clever and will keep you guessing throughout. Each episode is around 1.5 hours, so it is like watching a movie every time. There are 3 seasons (with 3 episodes in each season), plus a one-off special. In other words, 10 Episodes in total. Seasons 4 & 5 are rumoured to be airing in 2017.
Making a Murder
IMDb Rating 8.9/10
Only available on Netflix, Making a Murder is a Documentary TV series that is filmed over a 10 year period and shares the true story of Steven Avery. A man who was exonerated after 18 years in prison for crime he did not commit finds himself accused of murder and facing prison once again. The series focuses on conspiracy theories and police negligence. This show had me, along with 90% of Facebook, guessing and coming up with our own theories on the story! There are 10 episodes and the length of each episode is 47-66 minutes. There are rumours of a second season.
The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story
IMDb Rating 8.6/10
The series is based on the true story of the infamous O.J. Simpson case. Before watching, I really didn't know much about O.J. Simpson or his notorious murder trial - so prior knowledge of the case isn't necessary. I found the series informative. After watching, you will be researching the details and watching documentaries on the real case! Finally, I loved the casting for this. It was nice to see David Schwimmer playing Robert Kardashian, and John Travolta is unrecognisable in his character. There are 10 episodes, each around 40 minutes to an hour long. They are now developing season two.
IMDb Rating 8.4/10
Homeland has been around for a while now but I’m new to it and had to catch up with the rest of the world! It’s an excellent series, and the show's themes keep up with current events. The first season is basically about a U.S. Marine who has been rescued after being held captive by Al-Qaeda. But, on his return, the CIA are worried he has flipped sides and is acting as a spy against the US. There are currently 5 Seasons with 12 episodes in each season. Episodes range from 45-60 minutes, so there is plenty to watch! Season 6 will be aired in 2017.
IMDb Rating 8.9/10
Another Netflix original, Narcos details the life of notorious drug lord, Pablo Escobar. I found the production value of this epic; no expense was spared and it is like watching a blockbuster movie every episode. The first Season is 10 episodes long with a running time ranging from 45-60 minutes. Season 2 is airing September 2nd 2016.
How to Get Away with Murder
IMDb Rating 8.3/10
Finally, How to Get Away with Murder. The plot is quite hard to explain in a few words, but basically it is about a Criminal Defence Attorney/Law Professor who employs 5 of her students to intern at her firm. Season 1 explores two related murders and it flips between flashbacks and flash forwards. I find the series fast paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat, highly recommended! There are currently 2 seasons with 15 episodes in each season. Episodes are around 45 minutes long. Season 3 is going to air September 22nd 2016 and I can not wait!
Well, I hope you watch some or all of these shows and enjoy them as much as I did!
