Social circles have been trying very hard to find a common schedule for Christmas get-togethers with December just beginning, and some have parties have already started just to beat the holiday rush. It’s easily my favorite season, mainly because it’s the time of the year where people really make an effort to see and spend time with each other, even for just one season each year.
Now, if you only have that one chance each year, don't your loved ones deserve to see the glitziest version of yourself? Personally, I think that just as valid as Christmas is an excuse to pig out, then this season is also the perfect time where you can wear metallics confidently, with everyone just in the holiday cheer mode. But how exactly do you sport this trend? How can you still be faithful to your personal style and shine through? I’ve been asked a lot of times as this isn’t always for the faint of heart, and can even be intimidating. But how can a little sparkle hurt, right?
When intimidated by metallics, tone it down with an unexpected pair like denim — ripped, faded, washed. For something that’s expected at grand balls and on huge stages, denim makes it more fit for casual dinners and more intimate socials. Mute everything else like shoes and accessories and it can still be appropriate for corporate socials this season. And if you’re feeling a little extra, go ahead and add more texture like velvet or lace!
Another trick is to keep to a palette with just a hint of sparkle. Choose your metallic piece and build around it with monochromatic or tone-on-tone pieces. An all-black set will be party ready when a sequined blazer tops it off. A seemingly plain pair of fitted blue jeans with a beaded top instantly jazzes it up. And even a conservative pullover and skirt look will make you shine if you pick high-watt silver pieces.
Now, if you are committed to make this once-a-year social gathering a moment to remember, then metallic pieces as your ammo will undoubtedly not disappoint. Make it your centerpiece and build your look around it, muting everything else to make it -- and you -- really stand out. A fully sequined jacket will always be show-stopping, thigh high silver boots will surely turn heads around, and even gold booties piled with gold accessories will give you massive kilowatt style mileage.
I personally love metallics for being fuss-free in a way that it instantly ups the ante of any look. Any basic look can be transformed with any metallic piece, and can be worthy to be remembered until the next Chrismas get together. Chances are, metallics can work with most of the pieces in your closet today, just remember to have fun and enjoy the sparkles! Happy holidays!
