If I were given anything to wear every day it would be jeans and a t-shirt. Maybe it’s the true casual in me. But I love putting on a pair of old jeans that have softened over the years and formed to your body’s unique curves. It takes years of your repeated use and washes to get the comfort, exact blue shade and fade you desire and precise fit to your body. Your jeans become so uniquely yours, that it’s difficult to find another pair that gives you so much pleasure to put on – at least until it endures the wear and age process our beloved denims go through.
Think a second about some of your favorite denims. How effortless it is to put on.
From its beginnings as heavy work clothing (originally designed for a wood chopper), denim has come a long way becoming effortless, timeless and quality mainstays in our wardrobes. One such leader in creating comfortable and quality denims is Marks & Spencer, which just celebrated its 20th anniversary in the Philippines. The British brand invests in innovative and quality designs, and I had the pleasure of trying on some of their innovations and cult favorite designs during their In(JEAN)ius event.
Showcased on the wall were innovations the company has engineered over the past decades: Sculpt & Fit (high power stretch), Ozone Denim wash (eco-friendly jeans), Stormwear (water repellent), etc. But I was really interested in their basic, timeless and low-key denim pieces. I imagined wearing the jeans with a white t-shirt (chic, check); white button-shirt (sharp, check) or silky evening top (glamour, check). The high-waisted bootcut style I picked for myself was very classic, but was also a nice relief and update from a wardrobe full of skinny jeans of the past decade.
Don’t get me wrong, skinny jeans is still one of the most flattering, leg-elongating cuts. But hey, it’s time to bring in a little flare back.
